Five years ago, this hillside was barren, scarred by years of deforestation and soil erosion. Today, it stands as a testament to what community-driven reforestation can achieve.
The Sahyadri Green Belt project began in 2021 with a simple goal: plant 25,000 native trees and restore the local ecosystem. What we didn't anticipate was the incredible transformation that would follow.
The Challenge
The initial soil tests were discouraging. Years of degradation had stripped the land of nutrients. Our team worked with local farmers to implement sustainable soil restoration techniques before any planting could begin.
The Community
Local villagers became the backbone of this project. Over 200 families participated in the planting drives, and many continue to serve as forest guardians today.
The Results
Today, the Sahyadri Green Belt is home to over 50 bird species, countless insects, and a thriving understory of native plants. The water table in nearby villages has risen by 2 meters.
